Roving Rookie Reviews: Palo Alto Creamery

On our excursion through down town Palo Alto, California, we came across quite a gem.

We found the Palo Alto Creamery nestled on the corner of Emerson Street and Hamilton Avenue. Complete with black and white checkered floors, classic red booths, and a jukebox along the wall, this is what we imagine the diners and soda shops were like in the 1950’s.

Palo Alto Creamery offers a diverse menu, which you can even find at on a marquee style board above the counter. From breakfast to dessert, they have you covered any time of the day. You can even get one of their famous milkshakes at 8 o’clock in the morning if that is what you want.

We had heard the milkshakes are a must try, so Jolene had an Oreo milkshake and I tried a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough milkshake. These shakes are mixed in an old fashion style and served both in a glass and the silver mixing cup. I cannot even begin to describe how good these shakes are. When you day dream of the best milkshake in the world, it may just be this one.

To go along with our milkshakes, we shared a slice of Double Chocolate Cake. I had been eying this one as it sat behind the glass. The layers of moist chocolate cake, the silky frosting and combination of light and dark chocolate had my mouth watering. When we tried it, this cake did not disappoint.

To finish off our sampling, we tried a strawberry ice cream soda. If you like ice cream soda, you will love the ones they serve at Palo Alto Creamery. From the tall glasses to the art of putting all the ingredients together, this drink is a classic. If you are looking for a nice treat on a warm California day, this could be just the ticket.

On our way out, Jolene and I stopped to check out the bakery. They have everything from fresh and seasonal fruit pies to croissants and brownies. One baker was busy decorating a birthday cake with sleek chocolate designs and fresh strawberries while the others prepared dough for a variety of their fresh baked breads and treats.

If you are looking for a fun place to grab a bite to eat or a casual spot to take a first date, look no further than the Palo Alto Creamery in downtown Palo Alto, California.

Introducing Scratch in Mountain View

This week, Harrington Insurance Agency had the opportunity to attend a soft opening for Scratch, a new restaurant in Mountain View. This fine dining restaurant is located at 401 Castro Street (at the corner of California and Castro Streets) and is set to open for dinner December 30th, extending its hours to also offer lunch around January 10th.

Owner, Rob Fischer, has opened several successful restaurants in the area. His group of restaurants includes: Palo Alto Creamery Fountain and Grill (with locations in Palo Alto, CA and Stanford, CA), Reposado (located in Palo Alto), and newly opened Gravity (located in Palo Alto).

Upon arriving, one of the first things our group noticed was the excellent ambiance of the place. The slightly dimmed lighting, the stylish decor, and the friendly staff were all welcoming signs.

Our group sampled the Goat Cheese Souffle and Bacon wrapped Chorizo and Dates. Both were delicious and full of flavors that delighted the pallet. For our Entrees, we had a Salmon dish and a Herb Chicken dish. Each dish arrived with a beautiful presentation and was cooked to perfection.

To finish up our meal, we were brought a menu of desserts. We opted to try the chocolate lava cake with a vanilla ice cream, the rice pudding with fruit, and the apple upside down cake. All three desserts were a great way to end a lovely meal.

Throughout the entire meal, the staff was attentive and maintained our table regularly. There were quite a few people in the restaurant, but the noise level was never an issue. Seated at our table, we were able to enjoy our meal and conversation as expected. We truly enjoyed our dining experience.
